Yali (pronounced YAH-lee) has a double meaning.
Yali comes from the name of the species of food-safe yeast we use as an abbreviation or shorthand, using the first two letters of the proprietary strain.
Yali also comes from a quote in the Analects of Confucius. The word is a combination of the two characters meaning refined or noble (yǎ) and propriety or principled (lǐ).
